YAG Crystal (Y3AI5O12) |
Undoped YAG Crystal is an excellent material for UV-IR optical windows, particularly for high temperature and high energy density online_orderings, The mechanical and chemical stability is comparable to sapphire crystal, but YAG is unique with non-birefringence and available with higher optical homogeneity and surface quality. Up to 3'' YAG boule grown by CZ method, as-cut blocks, windows and mirrors are available from Laser Optex.Main Features: 1) Transmission in 0.25-5.0 m m, no absorption in 2-3 m m. 2) Extremely hard and durable. 3) High thermal conductivity. 4) High bulk damage threshold. 5) High index of refraction and Non-birefringence. |

YAG substrate
Undoped YAG is a substrate material that can be used for UV and IR optics. Sapphire has been the substrate of choice for these applications; however it is difficult to polish Sapphire to a 10-5 scratch-dig finish, and is also slightly birefringent. YAG is non-birefringent and can be polished to a 10-5 scratch surface quality. Advantages Due to the high strength of YAG, thin windows can be fabricated without warping, allowing them to be used at wavelengths near the UV and IR cutoffs The high index of refraction reduces spherical aberrations in lenses by 25% over a typical glass lens Applications Used for UV and IR optics Especially useful for applications in the 2-3 um region where there is no absorption, this is where glasses are highly absorbent due to the strong H2O band. Also It is good substrate for both HTS film and III-V nitrides.
